The delicate Atelier Apt.
We finally have the pleasure of sharing this project that was completed this winter. A charming apartment located at Torshov in Oslo has become a new home. With a light color palette, combined with contrasting elements of ‘modern-simple’ and ‘antique-old’, the apartment now feels interesting, dynamic and engaging.
In this project we emphasized our preliminary analytic phase, since the apartment was to be adjusted a new chapter in life. The analysis functioned in this case almost like a rite of passage, and the apartment was to mark the start of something new. But how were we to make that happen? Raising awareness about the surroundings, as well as mapping of the client’s activities was crucial. What daily routines are important, what does one really do at home, what does one want to do more of, and how should the home facilitate for the life you want to live? Furthermore, we had to analyze how we could best capture this through colors, objects and the positioning of furniture in the space. Which new elements should be implemented, which of the current elements should be brought on? When does the sun come in to the different rooms, and what is it about the sun that’s so important? What does the sun make us feel?
We had several conversations surrounding these topics; we got in depth and became wiser together. And like all projects, we were again reminded how interesting and important it is to take in how we are affected by our surroundings, and least not how we can affect our surroundings. For us, this insight is a prerequisite going into details and finely tune the meeting between people, space and object, and with that be able create just the right home for someone. This is also possibly what we appreciate the most in our work with interior architecture, so thank you for the conversations, for the insight and the trust.

Through the process it’s been important to make space for humor, where the alternation between serious, beautiful, solemn, relaxed – and least not humorous – has been implemented.
Of the new elements of furniture and textiles that has been used in this project, most of it is second hand or heirlooms.
