Studio Apartment
We have designed an urban studio apartment located in Oslo. The goal was to create a functional space where the area was utilized in the best possible way based on the inhabitant’s needs and desires. With this in mind the kitchen and dining area was prioritized so that it will easily be possible to host dinner parties without the lack of space.
Before the renovation the apartment appeared impersonal, small and poorly utilized with many arbitrary solutions. By removing the wall between the living room and the once small kitchenette, the apartment became both lighter and more spacious, while it also freed up space to install a fully functional kitchen. With the inhabitant’s profession within the restaurant industry in mind, many of the elements have been selected to substantiate these interests, like the classic restaurant chairs and exposed kitchen equipment.
Furthermore, the apartment has been upgraded with earthy nuances and tactile materials, and in this way both appear light and friendly. The horizontal contrast line that appears between the chalk paint and the matte white hue on the walls, bring a subtle dynamic into the space. The floors were painted grey, which creates a contrast to the otherwise warm nuances. Through these different elements the urban studio apartment has become a complete, functional and pleasant space to dwell.
